An easy way to make your business green

Concerns over the future of the planet are never far away from news agendas these days, and there is an increasing pressure on businesses to demonstrate that they are doing what they can to be environmentally friendly.

Many have avoided the issue up to now, because of fears that changing to “green” products will cost time and money, but these concerns are unfounded.

Any business can improve and enhance their green credentials quickly and easily – simply by using environmentally friendly and recycled products in their day to day business operations. 

The concern used to be that recycled paper, for example, was more expensive than virgin paper, and while that once was true, it is no longer the case. In response to demand, paper manufacturers now produce recycled paper in high volumes and as a result these can be sold at a similar cost to virgin fibre paper.

The quality of recycled paper has improved steadily over the past few years, and while fully recycled paper may look more natural, there are plenty of certified eco-friendly alternatives to recycled paper.

Most stationery suppliers can offer virgin paper that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC is an international non-profit organisation which exists to ensure that forests are managed to protect wildlife and respect the rights of local communities.

Paper that has been accredited as environmentally friendly by the FSC will carry their logo on the packaging, so customers can be assured that the paper, although not 100% recycled, is produced by environmentally friendly methods.

It isn’t compulsory yet for businesses to show their green credentials, but it’s likely that the pressure will increase to the point where going green will become the norm. In addition, a growing number of firms require their suppliers to use environmentally friendly materials whenever possible.

Choosing to use either recycled paper or virgin paper certified by the FSC is a quick and easy way for you to show that your business is committed to helping save the planet’s natural resources.
