Mel Williams

Mel and Andy McCorquodale set up Spiral Group Purchasing in 2003 to provide procurement and cost reduction advice to businesses who were deemed too small by larger consultancies for such advice.

Before setting up Spiral Group Purchasing, Mel had run a successful franchise with Expenses Reduction Analysts (ERA), becoming their Franchisee of the Year in 2002.

During his time with ERA Mel dealt with many large businesses providing detailed overhead cost analysis and delivering large annual savings for each of his clients. His in-depth knowledge of business banking, forged from 18 years in corporate banking with Nat West, helped him to assist many ERA clients to save money, and to reclaim overcharges, on their banking and merchant card processing fees.

Even though Mel provided his cost reduction services to a wide range of businesses, he focussed on charities and the Third Sector for clients working with the likes of, RSPCA, Birmingham Settlement, and Focus Birmingham.

Since establishing Spiral, Mel has been responsible for the building of Spiral’s expertise in assisting trade associations, and business networks such as, Retail Motor Industry, National Security Inspectorate, and the Federation of Sports and Play Associations, to create and run their membership benefit programmes.
