BFS can work with you to find out if your business qualifies and if so, help to generate funding for business development projects that would otherwise be delayed or not take place at all.  In some cases, the amounts concerned could cover up to 50% of eligible costs.  The types of projects that could be eligible include: 

• Assistance in preparing a business plan to raise new money to develop, or expand the business.  This includes assistance with identifying banks/lenders, negotiating new funds, and business advice after the new funds have been obtained.
• Research and development expenditure for new products and processes, including costs of staff, materials and subcontractors.
• Purchase of new plant and machinery with the creation of new jobs and /or protection of existing jobs.
• Purchase of energy saving equipment - interest free loans.
• Preparation of plans to diversify, and develop new products and/or new markets.
• New business start-ups with the prospect of rapid expansion – grant towards business advice costs.
• Creative arts and media business development projects – business advice costs.
• Certain business activities for marketing and product development.

All grant and support applications go through a review and approval process, and all qualifying expenditure must be incurred after approval of a grant or support scheme.  Awarding of grants may also be affected by the location of a business.
