Did you start 2008 planning to lose a few pounds?

The intention to "lose a few pounds" is a promise many of us make every New Year and invariably fail to achieve.

But many people reading this will be losing pounds every day – and they won’t even be aware of it.

It could be you we’re talking about – if you haven’t recently checked what prices you are paying for electricity and gas. Thousands of businesses fall into the trap set by energy companies every year, whereby they “roll over” contracts for a period of time after sending out an innocent letter outlining details of new and higher prices.

The result is that the unsuspecting customer ends up paying more for an essential service that they need to operate their business. A very negative slant on the idea of “losing a few pounds” in the New Year.

So how can you avoid being caught out? Follow the simple steps outlined below.

Check with your energy provider to find out when the contracts for your electricity and gas supplies expire, and let us know. We will then diarise the details and contact you well in advance of the renewal date.

Make a note of the time period between two and four months prior to the contract renewal date. The energy provider will write to you with details of your new prices during this time, so watch out for the letter coming in.

When the letter does arrive, send it straight to Spiral. We will then source prices from other providers and use this renewal offer as a comparison figure to demonstrate the savings available by moving to a new provider.

Losing pounds in the New Year may be a good idea – but losing ££££ definitely isn’t! Make a New Year resolution to ensure that you don’t pay over the odds for your electricity and gas – and let Spiral help you cut your energy costs in 2008.
